State and local officials have been listening to selfish people long enough. People who complain about not being able to go out and have fun or get their nails done are forcing officials to open things up too soon, allowing COVID-19 to keep spreading.
Enough
It’s time the government started listening to those of us who have been responsible enough to quarantine ourselves to try to get this deadly monster under control. It’s as if we don’t exist, and the only people who matter are those who would rather see their family and friends get sick and/or die.
Enough
Believe it or not, human beings can survive without socializing and spreading this disease. We can survive with long nails and uncut hair and without going out to eat or to the movies or to Disneyland. Being alive is more important than any of those things.
Enough
Yes. Businesses need to reopen so people can start earning an income again, but not at the cost of people’s health, welfare and lives. How many businesses will survive when their employees and customers are dead or dying from COVID-19? If you really want to get upset about something, get upset that the government, read Republicans, doesn’t care enough to help those who really need it by not only providing money, but by ensuring both health care to those who would lose coverage if businesses shut down to protect them from COVID as well eviction protection.
Enough
A one-time payment of $1,200? How many of us blew through that with one house or rent payment? What good was it? How many people are or will be homeless because, now that the $1,200 is gone, they can’t make that same rent or house payment? How many people are or will go hungry because they lost their jobs and can’t afford food?
Enough
And how many people and corporations pay no taxes at all because of the way our tax code is structured? It may sound a bit cliché but now it’s truer than ever: The rich must start paying their fair share. Tax codes must be rewritten NOW to eliminate loopholes and other gimmicks the wealthy use to avoid paying taxes.
Enough
If this isn’t a national emergency, what is? And in a national emergency, the government must take extraordinary action to help those who keep the government going, read, the people. This cannot wait. The lives of all of us, rich and poor, are at stake.
Enough
In addition to fixing the tax code so more money can be taken in, government officials at all levels must take action now to stop the spread. All but essential operations need to be shut down so people can’t gather and keep reinfecting each other. While it sounds draconian, with more than 200,000 Americans dead and more than 7 million suffering from what could be lifelong complications, drastic action must be taken.
Enough
It’s time Americans wised up and quit attending super-spreader events, such as Trump rallies, motorcycle gatherings, parties and sporting events … and maybe even some protests, although that would be a shame. With the exception of Trump rallies, hopefully, they all will still be around when COVID-19 is tamed.
Enough
And while we all should be worried about such super-spreader events, the only super-spreader event the government really should be concerned about is how to super spread more money around to those in need. Some will say the government doesn’t owe its citizens the kind of help they need now. Well, since the government, read Trump, helped worsen the situation, it most certainly does owe taxpayers a helping hand.
Enough
While the government definitely has played a role in all this, we the people are not blameless. Americans have never been known for our patience, and now that attribute is killing us. Why can’t we realize that all the money spent on scientific and medical research is being done for a reason? To save lives. And now that we have some of the results of that research, so many of us refuse to accept it. We must wear masks, wash our hands, social distance, use hand sanitizer and the rest. And get our flu shots.
Enough
Americans must accept the fact that the government is not trying to force its will on its citizens for some evil purpose. The government is trying to keep us alive.
Enough
It’s time everyone – the government and the people – faced up to the fact that time is running out. The predictions for this winter, when we will have to deal with the flu as well as COVID-19, are dire. Turning our backs on the dangers we face for the sake of fun, short hair and fancy nails is not the solution. Wise up, America, and let’s take care of ourselves.
