Quickies

I’ll admit it. I’m obsessed with Trump and the circus he calls a government. In fact, some nights he haunts me so much that I can’t sleep. So, I’ll use the old tried-and-true method of falling asleep by counting sheep. The only thing is, my sheep look like former Trump Cabinet members and staffers. Imagine trying to nod off while Paul Manafort, Rex Tillerson and Michael Flynn are flying over your bed.

Not a pretty sight.

A PREDICTION: On January 20, 2021, Trump’s last day in office (if he lasts that long), Melania will file for a divorce.

I wonder if Mike Pence has chosen a vice-president yet. The way it’s going Trump may not make it to the end of his term, which would make Pence president. How about Hillary, or Joe Biden, or Bernie Sanders. I’d be OK with any of them.

A word about John McCain, who at 81, has incurable brain cancer. I’m a Democrat and disagree with many of  McCain political stances,  yet I still honor and respect him for his service to our country as a veteran, prison of war and U.S. senator, not to mention his appearances on Saturday Night Live.

Despite McCain’s achievements and status, our no-class president still hasn’t publicly disciplined White House aide Kelly Sadler, who infamously said “he’s dying anyway” when discussing McCain’s opposition to Gina Haspel as CIA director because she had overseen torture of detainees. Haspel has been approved for the post by the Senate.

Trump didn’t respond in the accepted way by letting her know she was wrong or even firing her. Instead, he’s more concerned about who leaked in quote. Incredible.

As for me, I wish John McCain and his family all the best through these trying times.

I am a retired journalist with nearly 30 years in the field, during which time I was a reporter and held numerous editor positions at local newspapers and a number of magazines. After I retired, I was a sub in my local school district, then did PR for that district. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in journalism, and as for my politics, that's simple: I'm a liberal Democrat. I'm married, and my wife recently retired after 25 years as a teacher. We have one daughter, who has earned her PhD and works at a UC. Through this blog, I hope to pass on some interesting thoughts and ideas, entertain with some lighthearted posts and generally quell my pandemic-induced boredom.

  1. I agree with you about McCain. i may not like someone’s politics, but I cannot imagine insulting someone because of a health issue they can’t control.
